Day 310 - K-9 Winter Ale

Oh the weather outside is darn cold,
and this beer runs malty and bold,
Colored orange like the sun down low,
Drink it slow, drink it slow, drink it slow....

Specs:

Full Name: K-9 Cruizer Winter Ale
Brewed By: Flying Dog Brewery
From: Frederick MD
ABV: 7.4%

A very tasty one in the winter ale category. Full flavored, but not too sweet or heavy, or worse, full of nasty spices. After a slow start with the first two beers (admittedly a wheat and a porter), I'm really going to have to make a trip to Frederick to find this brewer, or at least pick up a few of their others.

cheers!

Day 269 - Dogtoberfest

Day 3 of the seasonals, and alternating the spiced ales with others. Sometimes, I just amaze myself with my wisdom and intelligence...

So, nice burnt orange color, flows into a nice, dry beer. The malt is only a backdrop to the hops, though it lacks the citrusy yumminess of a palie. All in all, a very drinkable brew, worthy of space in the fridge.

Full Name: Dogtoberfest
Brewed By: Flying Dog Brewery
From: Frederick MD
ABV: 5.4%

You know, this brewer has quite a few varieties and I have been negligent in trying more. Perhaps next week...

Cheers!

Day 70 - Gonzo

So, didn't get a chance to get to the beer store today, so had a choice of this or this, so I flipped a coin and got this.....

The last of my brother Ned's contributions to the cause, and another clear attempt to sway me to the dark side, but while this one may have won a gold medal at some beer world cup, it won't make it into one of my glass cups anytime soon.

Specs:

Full Name: Gonzo Imperial Porter
Brewed By: Flying Dog Brewery
From: Denver Co and via special agmt - Fredrick MD
ABV: 7.8% (one redeeming feature perhaps)

My initial reaction was that someone had added a handful of hops and coffee grounds to a sweet, heavy red wine, and then left it to age open in the sun for a while. Yes, I know there are some out there that probably think this is a killer brew, and that the label is cool with a cowboy-hatted skeletor saying "ok, let's party", but they probably suffer from tendonitis of the pinky from holding it out too much....
Tomorrow, it's definitely a trip to the store, and hopefully to find a few more tasty beers. I still give props to my bro, for helping me make it through this week!

Day 48 - In-Heat Wheat

A real quick blog tonight, as I have to drive down to Durham NC and don't want to leave too late.

So, it was this or another canned import from Europe, and I'm thinking I made the wrong choice. This is a true wheat, kind of sweet, hint of spice, best drunk in the summer with pinky held high in the air.

If you like wheat, this may work for you, but sorry, I won't make this one my own dog.....

Specs:

Full Name: In-Heat Wheat Hefeweizen
Brewed by: Flying Dog Brewery
From: Frederick, MD
ABV: 4.7%

One of these days, I'll get the camera working again and add the pics...

BTW, if you are only reading this (which is cool with me...), I still suggest you get away from your computer and go find yourself a good beer!
