Day 317 - ESA

What was that old song "I don't like Mondays", by the Boomtown Rats. Sometimes it does feel like I have a silicon chip inside my head, but alas the programing is rather buggy at times....

Oh right, the beer. A nice brown, ale-ish color, and it has an ale-ly smell, and guess what, drinks like an ale as well. Slightly dry, but malty.

Specs:

Full Name: ESA (short for extra special ale supposedly)
Brewed By: Yards Brewing Co
From: Cheesesteakville PA
ABV: 6%

Ah well, each day brings it's own test of character and, in my case, test of taste buds. This one doesn't fail, and Cullen likes it ok, but then his standard measuring stick is a Nattie Light....

It's gone, and so am I.

Cheers!

Day 193 - Yards IPA

The 2nd from this brewer, and another winner. Philly is not that far away, and maybe rising on the list of places to visit to drink beer. Actually, I had just read an article the other day about the benefits of drinking beer, so really this turns out to be a healthy year long present to myself, kind of like exercising, but not... ;>)

I start to get excited when I pour the beer and it has a russet orange color and dry aroma. Most good palies seem to share that characteristic. Still, it comes down to when it passes the gums, and this one is yummo. Very citrusy, with a subtle sweet undertone.

Specs:

Full Name: Yards IPA
Brewed by: Yards Brewing Company
From: Philadelphia PA
ABV: 7%

Sadly, the best beers are usually empty by the time I get to this part of the blog, so my thoughts wander aimlessly, lost in the fact I haven't got a 2nd. Ah well, maybe next time I'm filling the pipeline a six or 2 of this might fall into the cart...

I'm wishing there were another 172 palies to finish the year on, but I am resigned to the fact that isn't likely, and at some point, I will have to risk another fruited beer. the best I can hop is that I follow it with something of this caliber.

Day 116 - Brawler

Seeing as how we (by which I mean me...) can draw a conclusion that no matter how cool the label looks, it doesn't de facto imply the beer inside the bottle is any good, this one is a pleasant surprise.

I can't say that we've had a "pugilist style ale" before either, but we might have to track down more for comparision. Hum, upon a quick look at the ole internet, it doesn't appear this this is really a style of beer at all, they just made it up...

Regardless, a russet brown color, and very strong malt over a creamy texture, leaves this one on the acceptable side of things.

Specs:

Full Name: Brawler
Brewed By: Yards Brewing Company
From: Philly, PA
ABV: 4.2%

Ok, this one is a tad towards the light side on the alcohol, but there are rare (and more rare for some that others...;>) ) occasions where keeping one's wits longer is a needful thing. This one is a really good change of pace from both bad beer and strong palies, so I would be inclined to keep a few sitting around.
