Day 315 Brown Sugga

Another day spent doing the Christmas shopping thing with Ellie, and even though at times we have a difference of opinion on a certain idea, somehow we manage to take care of everyone on our list.

Clearly there was risk in this selection, as anything that prominently talks about sweetness in the beer is potentially scary. Still, it pours a nice coppery color, and actually, tastes like a decent palie except for a strong sweet finish. Guess I dodged a bullet on this one...

Specs:

Full Name: Brown Sugga Ale
Brewed By: Lagunitas Brewing Co
From: Petaluma CA
ABV: 9.99%

So, seems that adding more sugar pumps up the ABV. It is a bit heavy, so no temptation to sit and drink more than one, but a good change of pace.

Peace out....

Day 241 - The Hairy Eyeball

A tough post tonight, as my mom passed away early this morning. It is a sad thing indeed, but she did not want to be remembered in that way, so it seems better to honor her by continuing the blog, and the beer consumption does help dull the pain a bit...

I had fair expectations of this one, as others by this brewer have been good. The name has a unique character, and it pours a deep red-brown. Alas, its catch phrase "Here's Lookin' Atcha!" rings too close to the truth, as the strong malty sweetness of this definitely makes it better to look at than to drink in my opinion.

Specs:

Full Name: The Hairy Eyeball Ale
Brewed By: Lagunitas Brewing Company
From: Petaluma CA
ABV: 8.83%

Since the blog was already inspired and dedicated to mom, I can only hope that I have the same strength and toughness that she had. Her not being with us is tough, and her love of shopping will be missed by the entire retail industry, but like a great palie, her memory will live on in my thoughts for a long time.

Cheers ma.

Day 124 - Undercover

I know I'm on to a good one when it is almost gone by the time I get things set up for the blog...

I did the Hop Stoopid by this brewer a while back, and this one is just as tasty. A sparkling autumn gold color, combined with a mouthful of hops with every sip, and yet, it sneaks in a bit of sweet finish.

Specs:

Full Name: Undercover Investigation Shut-Down Ale
Vrewed by: Lagunitas Brewing Co
From: Petaluma CA
ABV: 9.75% (yeah baby.... ;>) )

My only complaint with this one is that it didn't come in a 20 oz like the HS, and now it is gone. It is a limited release, so I may have to ask Ellie or Cullen to go back and pick up more while I am in Maine. The trick will be making sure Cullen doesn't drink them all before I can get home.

Speaking of Maine, we have found 4 leaks in the house, and identified the one on the inside leaking below a shower. The other 3 are exterior, and even with pouring rain today, did not find the source. We know the likely spots, so will just have to caulk like crazy (I say the entire outside of the dang house) and then test by spraying with a hose. If that works, it'll be on to drywalling the holes and repainting everything.

Day 41 - Hop Stoopid

More often than not the randomness of life can drive you to drink, but sometimes, it drives you to drink really good beer....

This one was recommended just today by Chris Anderson, an old frat brother, and Cullen was talking about my undertaking with his haircutter this afternoon, who said her husband really liked the selection at Wegmans, so putting both together and voila, here I sit drinking an excellent brew. 20 oz of autumn-gold hoppy-happiness. What a great start to the weekend!

Specs:

Full Name: Hop Stoopid Ale
Brewed by: Lagunitas Brewing Co
From: Petaluma CA
ABV: 8% (that's what I'm talking about!)

If you like your beer full of hops flavor, in a 20 oz bottle and a high ABV, go find this one! If not, dont, which is cool, as it means more for me...

Have a good weekend!
