Day 294 - St Boisterous

So wanted to get this in before we went out for the evening, as Liz is having her 18th Bday party and we aren't invited... However, since Ellie and are are old, we'll be back by 10....

A seasonal, but thankfully lacking any funky spices, so drinks like an ale, with malt as the driving taste. Actually, a tasty beer all in all, and good on a cold night. Keep a few of these on hand, but only give them to true beeretics.

I'll try and remember to post a pic of this tomorrow, but hey it's me, so it may or may not happen. Depends on if we survive getting home tonight, or more to the point, if the house and it's contents survive... This time next year, our beloved daughter will be at college somewhere, a thought both sad and joyous... ;>)

Day 158 - Storm King Stout

So, a stout in summer you ask, is he going crazy? Well, there is a very good reason why that is the case, and as for the beer, I was hoping the name would bring some rain and thus relief form the heat...

A deep dark brown, the color of one of those old time rootbeer hard candies in the shape of a barrel. As one would expect, the flavor is dominated by the heavily roasted malt, but, it has a smooth finish after a bold taste, which is the mark of a good beer in my opinion. It should be like fireworks. You get the wow factor, then a pause, then another wow etc. The only diff is that typically with a beer, there is no grand finale, unless it is the stars you see when you fall down after drinking too many... ;>)

So, this is the 2nd or 3rd by this brewer, and I seem to recall that each has been pretty decent. This is maybe a couple of hours away, so perhaps a pilgrimage is in order.

Day 143 - Hop Wallop

Sometimes it's not about the beer, but about how much hops is in the beer... ;>)

I successfully replenished my pipeline, with a majority of palies, and have moved the fruited beer to the back row again. This one does indeed have a good hops character, though doesn't quite pack the punch its name would indicate. The good thing though, it is consistent, neither overpowering up front, nor remaining that way well after the swallow. All in all, a very nice ale, though the label is somewhat goofy...

Scarily, I could have almost finished out this blog with all the fruited beer options they had at the store. Each brewer seems to have 3-4 varieties. Some out there would be glad to hear that I refrained from adding any more of them to my backlog. (though ok, since I leave this Sat, and won't have much room, I didn't want to have to pack a bunch of singles for the trip...)

Yum, I do like hops-heavy beer...
