Day 349 - Down a tooth...

Had a wisdom tooth removed today, and managed to get one beer down at Proc's 50th b-day (a rerun...) but that was it.

Day 348 - Wild Blue

Well, when you only have yourself to blame, it is hard to complain, but seriously, why would I chose to do this to myself? If you must, go ahead and serve these to people, but don't pour it into a clear glass. There is just no way to be seen drinking a beer this color (see additional pic below...)

So, color aside, this one tastes more like a wine cooler than a beer. Very sweet, and rather light. Of course, it also claims to be a premium lager, so that is a big swing and a whiff.

Specs:

Full Name: Wild Blue
Brewed By: Blue Dawg Brewing
From: Baldwinsville NY
ABV: 8% (only real redeeming thing about this)

The only consolation is that I can honestly say I gave frubees a fair shot, and I am none the better for it...

Go forth and drink good beer, and if you can't, there are plenty
of these out there. My daughter Liz, in her constant pursuit of turning my hair grey, informed me at dinner tonight that I inspired her with this blog, and that she is considering her own - a different boyfriend every day for a year...sigh...

Cheers!

Day 347 - Brew Free or Die

So, joined in the Whisky of the Week tonight (www.whiskyofweek.blogspot.com) and got caught up on this week and last. That left me in a quandry. I mean, after decent scotch, what beer do you drink? Choices were: this, a frubee or a big bottle black ale. No way I was going to desecrate the memory of scotch with a frubee, and the big black ale has a lot of potential, so this was a good compromise. Good news is, I nailed it.

A good orange-tinged yellow, and plenty of hoppiness makes this the canned beer fav by far. It finishes just a bit rough to break my top favs, but for a day out on the boat and saving the weight of glass, this is the beer.

Specs:

Full Name: Brew Free or Die IPA
Brewed By: 21st Amendment Brewery
From: Cold Springs NH
ABV: 7%

Less than 20 days and counting, and still finding a few gems out there. If you like your beer mostly hops with a little malt added, this is it. Of course, if you are in a chugging contest, this would not be the one to pick, as it definitely grabs some tonsil on the way past.

cheers!

Day 346 - BB Burgerbrau

In 2 days, the high and low can be achieved... Of course, what could I expect from an imported green bottle?
Ok, decent yellow color, but then it all goes downhill. Dry, bitter taste so classic of these beers. Seriously, they must all be brewed in the same place and then all the different lables are attached.
Specs:
Full Name: BB Burgerbrau
Brewed By: Budejovicky Mestansky Pivovar
From: Czech Republic
ABV: 4.7%
Ok, maybe a beer to drink with it's name sake, burgers... Not much else worth saying about this one, and a big botle and frubee is all that's left in the current piepline. With Cullen home tomorrow, guessing the big bottle will come out.
Cheers!

Day 345 - Abita Ale

A late addition to the Christmas ale collection, and truly worth the wait...

The color of glowing embers late at night, fresh hoppy aroma, and crisp ale flavor with a dry finish. No fruitiness or spiciness, just good beer. Sigh, this is what this year is all about.

Specs:

Full name: Abita Ale
Brewed By: Abita Brewing Co
From: Abita Springs LA
ABV: 5.5%

You know, all brewers should follow this simle precept - brew good beer. That doesn't seem that hard, but I guess those that don't exist so that we may appreciate those that do more. Down to 20 days, and while they all won't be as good as today (for sure, I have another frubie and green-bottled export in the pipeline...), the line is redrawn.

cheers!

Day 344 - Old Stock Ale

Back on the beer-wagon tonight, and went way extreme on the ABV to make up for all those sub-5s from last week. That's the highlight...

So, the color of molasses, and for the most part, the taste as well. This one is very heavy, very sweet and very unlikely to be drunk by me again...

Specs:

Full Name: Old Stock Ale
Brewed By: North Coast Brewing Co
From: Ft Bragg, CA
ABV: 11.7%

So, really struggling to get through this one, as it is just plain too heavy for my palate. The humorist in me would point out that it would be better named if you removed the "t" from Stock, as that is more akin to what it tastes like....

It's really getting hard to find ones I both haven't had and am willing to try, though I am now down to 3 weeks, yikes.

Cheers.

Day 343 - beerless-uh

The Procs came over for dinner, and somehow I had a no-blog beer for dinner, then Dave and I switched to bourbon and ginger ales, thus the lack of a blog tonight.
