Day 307 - Smuttynose Winter Ale

It's friiiiiiiidaaaaaayyyyy. A rather tough week ends with a good day, so what better way to celebrate the start of a weekend than with a beer. Let's get greedy, and say a good beer....

So Smuttynose hasn't let me down yet, and while dark ales are not my favorites, especially when they are of Belgian style, they are comfortable, and this one is like that ratty pair of jeans with the hole in the knee I keep in my closet. Deep cola brown, clean smell and roasted malt taste.

Specs:

Full Name: Smuttynose Winter Ale
Brewed By: Smuttynose Brewing Co
From: Portsmouth NH
ABV: 5.1%

The only beef I have with this is that it does grab my tonsils a bit, but that is true of all this style for some reason. Tastewise, it is very good, and it is refreshing in a way. Try it if you like this style.

Cheers!

Day 270 - Pumpkin Ale

Day 4 of les seasonales, and another one that lists pumpkin puree and spices as ingredients. There are no risks to great to take for my blog...

A deep orange-hinted yellow, with the clear aroma of pumpkin spice warning the nose. It was not without trepidation that I took the first gulp. Ok, the spice taste is there, but underneath and discernable is a very tasty ale, with good hoppy dryness. Clearly, the best of this breed so far.

Specs:

Full name: Pumpkin Ale
Brewed By: Smuttynose Brewing Co
From: Utica NY
ABV: 5.6%

Please note the black and yellow striped object behind the bottle in the pic. Yep, that is Anya's halloween costume, a bee, complete with antennas for the head... I may make her wear it every night though, as at least I might be able to see her in the dark. Needless to say, the motivation behind it was Liz, who seriously should go work for Obama, as her ability to find ways to spend money outdo even his.... ;>)

Day 145 - Big A IPA

Ok, I didn't know that just brewing hops and water would create an alcoholic beverage, but it must be true...

This one rocks the hopsba. Who cares about the color, who cares you can't taste a hint of malt, and if you drank enough of these, you'd quickly get to not caring about anything. Now, I couldn't drink this one every night, and in the end I think I like a little more balance in a palie, but this one is definitely a must try if you are a hopshead.

Full Name: Big A IPA
Brewed By: Smuttynose Brewing Company

ABV: 9.74%

So, the guy on the label is an old time boxer - Stash Wojciechowski, aka The Killer Kielbasa...

That aside, I'm beginning to wonder if I move to NH now, would my daughter qualify for instate tuition next year... :>) Only one more night up in Maine, then back to Va and reality.
